About Us

Charleston Community Acupuncture opened in September 2009 as a way to offer an alternative to the high costs of acupuncture in our community. We are a locally owned and community supported business striving to be a part of the solution to the problems in the healthcare industry. We are part of Community Acupuncture Network (CAN) and together we work to employ and encourage practitioners interested in making acupuncture available to anybody in the U.S. who is interested, regardless of means or insurance coverage.

Chad Houfek L.Ac. is a Licensed Acupuncturist in the state of South Carolina and is a NCCAOM Diplomat of Chinese Herbal Medicine. He earned his Master's Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College in Boulder, Colorado.  He currently live on James Island.  When he is not at work he enjoys spending his time with his family and friends, growing veggies and herbs, surfing, and playing music.

Zachari Cahn is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist. He completed his extensive four year Masters degree program in 2006 at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine  Embeded within his Chinese Medical education was  not only a variety of acupuncture modalities and herbology, but also three years of western medical training including anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, structural diagnosis and western clinical diagnosis, further encouraging an integrative approach to health care.
After graduating, he practiced on the west coast, then founded a health center in Central America, where he practiced for three years.  In 2009 he to returned to the States, and settled in North Carolina.  Missing the ocean and the type of community, music and food that South Carolina offers, he moved to Charleston in 2011.  Zachari specializes in musculo-skeletal pain relief, emotional rebalancing  and internal disease.  He has immersed himself in the life long study of both Chinese and Western herbs and is highly committed to his patients care, focusing on patient education and prevention of disease.

Tamara M. Stender is a James Island native who completed her massage training at Trident Technical College in 2008, after studying theatre and French at Florida State University. She believes that massage is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle and she is passionate about sharing it with others. Tamara's training includes Swedish, Deep Tissue, Active Isolated Stretching, Sports Massage, Hot Stone, and Nurturing the Mother by Claire Marie Miller Pregnancy Massage. She is also a Reiki I practitioner. She believes that everyone has different needs; therefore, her massage varies from person to person according to what the body and the person tell her. Tamara believes in whole-body wellness and diligently strives for balance on all levels - physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She believes that adding massage to a health regimen of proper nutrition and exercise will help to achieve that balance. In her spare time, she runs, practices yoga, grows herbs and flowers in her container garden, and has recently taken up learning to play the saxophone.
