About Us

Chad Houfek L.Ac., owner and proprietor of Charleston Community Acupuncture, is a Licensed Acupuncturist in the state of South Carolina and is nationally certified by the NCCAOM as a Diplomat of Chinese Herbal Medicine. He earned his Master of Science Degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College in Boulder, Colorado.  He is also a College of Charleston alumni. Chad has a wide range of clinical experience, having treated people of all ages for many diverse health issues including pain, injuries, stress, anxiety, digestive disorders, respiratory problems, hormonal imbalances, fatigue, allergies, fertility, and gynecological issues. He is dedicated to working with you to find the most effective path to healing and restoring your health and well-being.

Chad believes that acupuncture can change the way we look at our health, body, mind, and spirit. He loves his job, and is passionate about community acupuncture. He currently lives on James Island with his wife, Jessa, and two children. When he is not at work he enjoys spending his time with family and friends, growing food, surfing, and playing music.

Nilsa Ayn Compton, a Licensed Acupuncturist & Herbalist, is nationally certified by the NCCAOM as a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine. She graduated in 2005 from Southwest Acupuncture College in Santa Fe, New Mexico with a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine. She also earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1995 from Loyola University Maryland. Nilsa has successfully treated many health issues, such as pain, stress, anxiety, fertility, menstrual irregularities, gastro-intestinal issues, headaches, nausea, dizziness, arthritis, asthma & allergies. She is passionate about her work and wholeheartedly believes in the effectiveness of this medicine for staying well and balanced. Nilsa is married with 2 children, and enjoys family adventure time together when she is not working.  She loves to practice yoga, dance and swimming in the ocean for wellness and relaxation.
